Leadership Challenge: The Drive-by
The drive-by happens daily in business world. The drive-by is when we give a very limited amount of attention to someone. For example, you see a client of yours and give a quick "hi, how you doing?" and even before they answer you are off, on your way to the next person or event. Yes, at times a quick "hi" is perfect, but don't be so quick that they are wondering where the fire is that you are off to and of course don't need to drag it out into "War and Peace!"
For the next month pay attention to how you interact with those around you and take an extra moment to acknowledge their presence. I am confident that you will be amazed at the results!

Recently I learned an exercise to improve my listening that I want to share with you. Close you eyes and count to 50, as soon as any thought other than the next number enters your mind stop counting. How high did you get? Some people reach 25 on their first try, most are lucky to reach double digits!
Imagine, if we are so vain that we interrupt ourselves, how willing are we to interrupt others without even thinking about what we are doing.
