Adult Winter Reading Program
Coming this January to High Plains Library District branches, the Adult
Winter Reading Program invites you to travel the world with a few good
books. What better way to take a vacation then to cozy up with a good read,
and let your mind wander distant (or not-so-distant) lands in search of
adventure. The Winter Reading Program will run January 1 through February
28, and will give you a chance to earn rewards for your time spent reading.
Read three books to receive a giveaway and be entered in grand prize drawings for
an annual pass to Rocky Mountain National Park, MP3 player, or Sony eReader.
Each completed log is an entry in the grand prize drawings. Register and pick up
a reading log at your local library, bookmobile, or register online. You must be
18 or older to participate.

Alice in Wonderland (Rated G, 75 minutes)
Come celebrate Lewis Carroll's birthday at the library and watch the 1951
Disney animated classic. Based on the popular children's book, young Alice
becomes bored and her mind starts to wander. She sees a white rabbit that
appears to be in a hurry. She chases it into its burrow and then a most
bizarre series of adventures begins. Popcorn and drinks provided.
Writer's Group: Memoirs

Circle. No particular expertise required - just a desire to meet new folks

weekly support group for individuals who are currently looking for a job

Page to Screen Film Discussion

Adaptation (Rated R; 115 minutes)
Screenwriter Charlie Kaufman (played here by Cage) writes about a period of
his own life where he was trying to complete a screen adaptation. Kaufman
was a man filled with self-loathing and was overwhelmed by his feelings of
inadequacy. The "fourth wall" is broken in spectacular style as the
audience is allowed to see the action of the book which he is trying to
adapt. Through his journey, Kaufman's life is complicated as he is driven
almost insane in trying to make something real of the characters in the
book. Screenings will be followed by a discussion of the film adaptation.

Want to get creative in the new year?! Join us to learn a variety of craft
and creative projects from professional instructors. January's craft is
embossing. Create raised, 3-dimensional images on paper. Learn dry relief
embossing with stylus as well as heat embossing with powder and ink. This
program is free for adults and older children; no registration required.

Meet writers in the community and learn tips for how to get published. Kerrie
Flanagan will share writing and publishing resources, how to catch the attention

Crafternoons: Peyote Stitch Beading (R)

Used by ancient Egyptian, Native American and Victorian bead artists, the peyote stitch is easy to learn and can be used to create beautiful and intricate designs. It requires no loom, and its flexibility and strength makes it a popular choice for surface embellishment, three-dimensional work, pouches, and of course jewelry.
