Read On!

Interested in some free one-on-one reading assistance? Read On! is a reading assistance program designed specifically for area teens in middle school and high school. Drop in anytime between 3:30-5:30 pm for some free one-on-one reading assistance with a trained volunteer. Volunteers can also help you explore your reading tastes and connect you to some great reading material!

Meditation Class
4:30 pm, Thursdays
Jeannie Meyers from Re-laxation Unwind Meditation will lead a half hour meditation class each Thursday afternoon. Patrons are encouraged to take time off from their hectic week to relax, unwind and rejuvenate themselves.

Rough Drafts Teen Writer's Group

Death to writer's block! Get together with other teen writers for writing support and encouragement. Share your poetry, script, novel or whatever, and maybe get published.

High Plains Otaku Manga Book Club

P.E.A.R.L.S.

What are P.E.A.R.L.S? They are teens who are: Precious, Empowered, Articulate, Resourceful, Loved and Supported--and they are you! Join us for this new support group addressing some of the many challenges of being a teen in today's world. Talk with other teens in a mutually supportive environment on a variety of teen-related topics.

Erie Winterfest: Little Town on the Prairie ™

11:00 am, December 5
In partnership with Erie Rotary, the Erie Community Library will host the following events:
  • 11:00 am - Professional educator Connie Ryle Neumann presents 'Laura's Christmas Memories.' Connie will read selections from the Little House™ books and talk about the pioneer life of beloved classic children's author Laura Ingalls Wilder. This program is for children over age 5 and their parents in the Living Room.
  • 11:00 am - A special Little House™ storytime for young children in the Storytime Room.
  • Win tickets to the Little House on the Prairie, The Musical, starring Melissa Gilbert as Ma, (tickets generously donated by Denver Center for the Performing Arts) and enter a drawing for a full-color collector's edition of By the Shores of Silver Lake.
  • Listen to holiday music and enjoy library displays featuring books, audiobooks, videos and information about the life of author Laura Ingalls Wilder.
  • Refreshments will be available in the library throughout the day.

Want to learn how to play collectible card games such as "Magic the Gathering" or "Vampire the Eternal Struggle?" Or do you know how to play and want to connect with other players? Join us! We'll provide the cards and teach you how to play.

Erie Otaku Manga Book Club

Do you DEVOUR books? Then Book Snack is for you! Each month, we'll read a new teen novel and come together to talk about it. Adventure, mystery, romance, intrigue... we'll be snackin' on it all.

Craft-ol-o-gy: Modern Alternative Craft for Teens

Alternative "alt" craft is very different than the crafting done in past decades. It's a no-holds-barred approach to creating works of contemporary art. Each month we will learn the process for a different technique. The craft for December is Origami Gift Boxes. Participants will have the opportunity to practice while making something unique. Because of materials used, this program is open to patrons age 12 and older. This program meets the third Monday of each month.

Eco-Ornaments (R)

Help Farr decorate for the holidays! Create beautiful ornaments from soda cans and tree and angel figures out of old magazines. Finished products will be displayed on trees and other areas in the library. Drop in anytime during the event to work on your masterpiece. All ages are welcome, but participants must be able to work, supervised or unsupervised, with scissors and sharp objects.

Beatle-mania comes to your library. Join Paul, George, Ringo and John on Beatles Rock Band for Nintendo Wii. Be a part of rock history the third Wednesday of each month.


The Joy of Gingerbread (R)

Enjoy a traditional holiday treat when Marilyn White of "Marilyn's Cake Creations" demonstrates the art of making gingerbread houses. After learning the basic techniques, you'll get to decorate your own graham- cracker house with frosting and a variety of colorful candies.
