Meet Our Instructors
Paige Corrente
Paige Corrente grew up in northeast Florida. She attended K-12 and college in Florida, and graduated from the University of North Florida. As a youngster she enjoyed dancing and taking gymnastics, as well as swimming on a swim team. Dancing seemed to be the hobby that stuck, and she started performing in a local dance company around the age of 11. She danced in a high school performing group, and during that time she taught dance classes, did lots of performing around the city, and competed in dance competitions around the state.
After finishing college, she married Phil and quickly launched into family life. After having her first child (Joshua), she cheered for the Jacksonville Jaguars and thoroughly enjoyed the NFL experience. She was nearing 30, and thinking about having a bigger family. Be careful what you wish for, she says. She had three more children in just three years (Nicholas, Andrew and Natalie). Life became rather hectic with so many little ones, especially since one of the children has complex congenital heart disease. Those were crazy but fun years that she will never forget.
After a few years, things started to get easier with the kids, and she was ready
for something new. They moved to Colorado, and a friend recommended that
teaching group fitness would be a great hobby/part time job for people with
little children. That turned out to be fantastic advice! She got certified with
AFAA first, then moved on to BodyPump and BodyJam. The next year she added BodyFlow and BodyAttack. She absolutely loves teaching group fitness at The Pulse.
Now she finds herself happy as can be with a full family life as well as
wonderful part-time job teaching to, as she says, "an awesome group of people at
The Pulse." She also enjoys reading, volunteering at her kids' schools and
watching football. "I love living in Colorado for so many reasons and hope to
live here a long time," she said.

Yoga -- It's Not What You
Think
If I was paid a dollar each time I've
heard, "Oh, I can't do yoga. It's too
hard. I'm not flexible," I'd be very
happy -- and rich! Actually, I'm happy
already. You see, the true goal of
yoga is not flexibility. It's
happiness. Physical postures are just
one of many methods that unwind
tension and relax the mind, and help
you experience more happiness.
Many people all over the world
practice yoga and don't ever fold
themselves into pretzels. There are
even classes in which students do yoga
from chairs! This means even the
unflexible can do yoga.
Yoga doesn't just mean being in a
classroom doing movement either. It
can mean singing, opening your mind to
different philosophies, or devoting
your actions to some greater cause.
Below are 6 different types of
yoga.
Explore them to find what appeals to
you!
Yoga of Postures
Hatha Yoga uses asana/physical poses,
pranayama/breathing techniques, and
meditation to achieve better health on
the levels of body, mind and spirit.
Many different "brands" of hatha yoga
exist, and this is the most well known
branch of yoga in the West.
Path of Devotion
Bhakti Yoga is the path of love. In
India, most people follow this path.
Those who practice bhakti look for the
Divine in everything. This path brings
peace by developing a person's love
and acceptance for all things.
Path of Self-Control
Raja Yoga means "royal." Through
discipline, this path is about
mastering and purifying one's body,
breath, mind, and attention. It is
based on the 8 Limbs of Yoga from the
ancient text, the Yoga Sutras by
Patanjali.
Yoga of the Mind
Jnana Yogis desire knowledge and are
open to different philosophies and
perspectives. They believe that an
open and rational mind is crucial in
an understanding and acceptance of
reality.
Yoga of Service
In Karma Yoga, practitioners strive
toward making their actions selfless.
They believe that doing each action
for the well-being of others instead
for themselves will create a future
that is free from negativity and
selfishness. This unselfish
perspective helps transform the
personality.
Tantra Yoga, Yoga of Ritual
Tantra is about finding the sacred in
everything we do. This path is often
misunderstood, as people believe it
means sexuality. Rather, it is about
using rituals to experience the sacred
in everyday living. Ceremonies are
often performed for common activities,
which is why there is sometimes a
misconception about tantra.
Above all, the type of yoga you choose
should fit into your life and enhance
your well-being. If you find that as
you practice yoga you begin to respond
with less judgement and more openness
to life's challenges as they arise,
it's a sign that you're on the right
track. This in itself will lead to
more happiness.

Coat Tree
Thank you to the staff and members of the Pulse for all 26 of the beautiful coats donated during the Coat Tree drive. The children taken out of meth labs do not have a thing that they can
take with them. On these cold days, those coats mean a lot. It was generous of all of you to take the time and effort to have this coat drive.
God Bless you all for being so generous.
Georgia Ackerman, Volunteer for Comfort Kits.

Upcoming Events
Welcome to the Spin Doctor Social Club
Most people who know Jon
Kushner will tell you
the same thing, "Jon has
a passion for people,
music and sharing his
excitement of cycling."
Show up at Jon's house
any weekend night and
ask him to play some
great classic blues,
classic rock, jazz, or
classical music from his
huge collection of LP
records as the two of
you tune up your
bicycle, or out on road
for a training ride
proves the above
points.
About 8 years ago, Jon was nick named "The Spin Doctor" by a group of Pulse
cycling
members based on his love & knowledge of music. Three years ago, while
playing a
stack of classic LP records and music videos, again for a group of Pulse
members at
a holiday party in early December, the host said "Jon, you have to play this
stuff
during a Spinning Class at the club."
So the first "Spin Doctor Social Club" ride was born and the first concert
scheduled
for January of 2005. Now in the third year, the Spin Doctor Social Club
concerts are
scheduled for the 2007-2008 season. This year's series includes the
following
concerts:
Saturday February 9, 2008: An encore performance from the 2005 series
The Bands
Last Waltz.
Saturday March 8, 2008: An evening with The Beatles, from
Liverpool, to their 1st two US performances on the Ed Sullivan
Show, Shea Stadium and more.
Jon tells us the idea and format for
his Spin Doctor Social Club are based on a classic series of R&B concerts headlined by Howlin' Wolf and Muddy
Waters on December 17, 1960, sponsored by the Honeyette Social Club
held at the Silvio Lounge on Chicago's West Side. The original
concert posters for the Silvio Lounge concerts are the model for
our Spin Doctor Social Club promotional concert posters you see at
The New Pulse.
Each year Jon chooses four classic concerts that have great music
and rhythm to
cycle to. Jon says, "As long as you like the artist, show up for a
great ride even
if you just want to sit on the floor and listen!"
Our cycling studio is transformed into a concert hall with an 8'
x 10 foot screen,
video projector and great music!
The 2006/2007 concert series included the following
performances:
Derek Trucks
The Allman Brothers
Carlos Santana - Supernatural
Susan Tedeschi
The 2006 concert series included the following
performances:
The Band's Last Waltz
Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble
Steve Winwood & Traffic - The Last Traffic Jam
Carlos Santana - Live by Request
Reservations for each concert are available one (1) week prior to
each ride on
Saturday morning. Register at the front desk. Refreshments are
served during each of
the rides.
For more information please contact "The Spin Doctor" (Jon) at
one of his cycling
classes or at jk@tridentconsulting.org.
See you at the Show!
